Blocklist: blocking emails and whole companies
Paste or upload addresses and company domains that must never be contacted; they are refused at import, skipped at enrolment, checked again at send time, and anyone already in your leads who matches is stopped everywhere.
Where: Settings → Blocklist → Add to blocklist / Upload CSV · Blocked emails & companies · Blocked people
How to do it
- Open Settings → Blocklist. The three counters show Blocked emails, Blocked companies and Blocked people.
- In Add to blocklist, paste emails, company domains or website links one per line (commas and semicolons also separate), e.g. jane@acme.com, acme.com, https://www.competitor.co.uk. Click Add to blocklist.
- Or click Upload CSV and choose a .csv or .txt file — any column containing emails or domains is picked up, so a Smartlead or Instantly export works as-is.
- Read the result line: "N added · M already listed · K existing leads blocked and stopped in campaigns · J ignored (not an email or domain)".
- Find entries under Blocked emails & companies with the All / Emails / Companies filter and the Search box; click the trash icon to remove one.
Good to know
- Formats are normalised: addresses are lowercased; "Name <jane@acme.com>" keeps the address; "@acme.com", "https://www.acme.com/about" and "acme.com" all become the domain acme.com. A domain entry blocks everyone at that company. Junk lines are ignored and listed back to you (first 3 shown).
- Where it is enforced: CSV import (rows reported "On your blocklist — not imported"), Lead Database adds and exports ("N on your blocklist"), enrolling a list into a campaign (blocked people are skipped), and every send — a lead blocked after enrolment is moved to Blocked ("On the blocklist — not sent") and stopped in every campaign.
- Adding an entry immediately moves any matching lead that is not already suppressed to Blocked and stops their active or paused enrolments in every campaign.
- Removing an entry does NOT unblock people already moved to Blocked — use Unblock under Blocked people for that.
- Uploads: up to 200,000 entries per file, sent in chunks of 10,000; the table shows the latest 2,000 entries (use search for older ones). Source column shows manual, csv: <filename>, or blocked from a reply.
- Blocked people also lists everyone who unsubscribed. Click Unblock to return a person to New so a list can enrol them again; their address entry is removed with them. A company-wide domain entry added by hand stays — remove it separately if it should not apply.
