Subsequences: follow-ups triggered by a reply tag
Send an automatic follow-up sequence the moment a reply gets a chosen tag — the calendar link on "Meeting request", the FAQ on "Question", a nudge later on "Not now".
Where: Campaign → Subsequences (header link or tab) → New subsequence. Steps are written in the same sequence editor.
How to do it
- Open the campaign's Subsequences page and click New subsequence (or the suggested "Create ‘Send calendar link’").
- Enter a Name and tick the tags under "Starts when a reply is tagged". Click Create & write steps — you land in the editor.
- Write the steps. Leave a step's subject empty to reply in the same thread as their answer (their subject with "Re:").
- Back on Subsequences, click Turn on. (It stays Off until it has at least one step.)
- Use the tag icon to rename or change trigger tags, Edit steps to change copy, and the trash icon to delete (leads currently in it stop receiving its emails).
Good to know
- When a reply on the parent campaign is tagged with a trigger tag — automatically by auto-tagging or by hand on the Replies page — the person leaves the main sequence (their reply already stopped it) and enters the subsequence. Each person enters a given subsequence at most once; unsubscribed, bounced or blocked people never enter.
- Subsequence emails go out from the mailbox the person replied to, in the same thread. The first step sends as soon as the tag lands, within the campaign's sending window.
- If the person replies again, the subsequence stops too — a human has taken over.
- A new subsequence copies the parent's schedule, delivery and protection settings and its sender selection at creation time. It starts switched Off.
- A subsequence keeps its own mailbox picks, so it can lose them on its own: if every mailbox it picked is deleted, a switched-on subsequence is switched off, its row shows the alert with "Pick mailboxes in its Settings → Mailboxes", and Turn on is refused until one is picked. One created while the parent has no mailbox left carries the parent's alert.
- Each row shows On/Off/"No steps yet", step count, entered, sent and replied counts, and the "Starts on" tags. A callout warns when auto-tagging is off for some tags on this campaign (those subsequences only start when you tag by hand).
- Subsequences don't appear in the Campaigns list; they live under their parent campaign.
