Build your sequence in the editor

Write the emails, set the waits between them, and mix in manual or call steps — the editor autosaves and previews every step for a real lead.

Where: Campaign → Sequences (the header link) or the Sequence tab / Edit campaign button. The left panel is "Sequence"; the right side edits the selected step.

How to do it

  1. Click a step card in the Sequence panel to edit it. The card shows its kind (Email 1, Manual 2, Call 3) and subject; between cards you see "Wait N days".
  2. Add steps with the buttons under the list: Automated email, Manual email, or Phone call (the last one appears only when the calling add-on is on for your workspace).
  3. Set "Wait before this step" (0–90 days) on any step after the first. New email steps default to a 3-day wait; new manual/call steps to 2 days.
  4. Type the Subject. On follow-ups, leave it empty to keep the follow-up in the same thread as the previous email ("An empty subject keeps the follow-up in the same thread").
  5. Write the Body. Select text and use Bold, Italic, Underline or Insert link (URL, Anchor text, Open in new tab). Use the "{ } Variable" menu to insert {{first_name}}, {{company}} and so on.
  6. Change a step's kind at any time with the Type dropdown (Automated email / Manual email / Phone call) — subject, body and timing are kept.
  7. Reorder with the up/down arrows on a card (attachments move with the step); delete with the trash icon.
  8. Changes autosave three seconds after your last edit ("Unsaved changes…" → "Autosaving…" → "Autosaved"). Click Save changes to save immediately.

Good to know

  • A sequence has 1 to 12 steps. Subject up to 998 characters; body up to 20,000 characters.
  • Formatting supported: bold, italic, underline, links and paragraphs. Pasted text is cleaned to those formats; pasted markdown like bold becomes real bold.
  • Under the body: "Reading time" (about 200 words per minute) and "Personalization" (how many variables the step uses). Tip shown: short, plain-text emails land best; avoid images and links in step one.
  • Each email step (and each A/B variant) has the tick box "Add the mailbox signature when this step sends" — see the signature article.
  • A step with an empty subject and body isn't autosaved until you type something.
  • Editing a live campaign: leads keep their position in the sequence, so a lead waiting on step 3 gets the new step 3. Emails already sent are never changed. Open manual/call tasks are re-rendered with the new copy.
  • The panel footer reminds you: automated emails send on their own; manual emails and calls wait for you in Tasks; every step stops for anyone who replies.
  • Launch/Pause/Resume and Save changes sit in the header. Launch is refused with "Add leads on the Leads step before sending." when the campaign has no leads.

Questions people ask

Why does my follow-up show "(no subject — same thread)"?
That's the card label for a follow-up with an empty subject. It will go out as a reply in the same thread, with the previous subject prefixed "Re:".
