Create a campaign and find your way around
Start an email campaign from the Campaigns page, then work through Leads → Sequences → Subsequences → Settings → Final review before you deploy.
Where: Campaigns → New Campaign. The setup pages (Leads, Sequences, Subsequences, Settings, Final review) share a header with those step links; the Analytics, Leads, Emails and Subsequences pages also carry the tab strip Analytics · Leads · Emails · Sequence · Subsequences · Settings.
How to do it
- Open Campaigns and click New Campaign.
- Type a Campaign Name (up to 120 characters, e.g. "Q3 SaaS founders") and click Create Campaign. You land on the campaign's Leads step.
- Add leads (Leads step), write your emails (Sequences), optionally add Subsequences, set the schedule and senders (Settings), then open Final review and click Deploy campaign.
- To rename a campaign later, click its name in the header (pencil icon) — press Enter to save or Escape to cancel.
- Back on the Campaigns page, click a campaign name to open its Analytics. The three buttons on the right of each row are Open replies (Replies filtered to that campaign), Edit (the sequence editor) and More actions: Pause/Resume, View Analytics, Leads, Move to Folder, Duplicate and Delete.
- Tick the checkbox on one or more rows (the box in the header ticks everything on screen) to get the bar "N selected" with Pause, Resume, Move to Folder, Delete and Clear Selection.
Good to know
- A new campaign is created as a Draft with one starter email step already filled in: subject "Quick question about {{company}}" and a short body that starts "Hi {{first_name}}," — edit or replace it.
- The Campaigns page lists email campaigns only; Multi Channel, LinkedIn and subsequence campaigns live under their own sections.
- The line under the title sums up what's listed: how many campaigns are sending, emails sent and positive replies.
- Tabs: All Campaigns and Folders (see "Organize campaigns in folders"). The status filter ("All Statuses") lets you tick any of Sending, Paused, Draft and Finished, each with its count; Show All Statuses clears it. The search box ("Search campaigns…") matches the campaign name.
- The ring on the left of each row is progress: emails sent ÷ every email the campaign will send — the ones sent plus the ones still to send to leads who are queued or partway through the sequence — so it reads 100% only when nothing is left. Hover it for how far it has got — e.g. "50% sent · 119,534 emails still to send", "Every email sent — 12 leads still in the sequence" (waiting on a manual or call step) or "Campaign is complete" — then how many leads were contacted, haven't started, are in progress or have completed, and how many people opened and clicked. It's red while sending, grey when paused, dark once nothing is left to send or the campaign has finished, and a dash for a campaign that hasn't started.
- Report columns: Sent, Opened, Clicked, Replied, Positive and Bounced by default; Metrics adds Unsubscribed or hides any column (at least one stays), and remembers your choice in that browser. Each shows the count and a rate. Sent is every email sent — hover it for how many were delivered, bounced and blocked. Opened is emails: the delivered emails opened — any recorded open, including the automatic ones mail-security scanners make — as a share of emails sent; hover it for how many people opened. Clicked, Replied, Positive and Unsubscribed count people, as a share of the people the campaign's emails reached (leads with at least one delivered email). Clicked leaves out the first 5 minutes after sending, when mail-security scanners click every link automatically — hover it for the count including those. Replied leaves out out-of-office and auto-replies (its hover says how many). Positive counts people whose reply is marked Interested, Meeting request, Meeting booked or Won. Bounced is emails that bounced (a bad address) as a share of emails sent; emails blocked as spam are shown in its hover, never added in. A bounce rate above 2% shows in dark red. A dash means tracking is off for that campaign or it hasn't started yet.
- Rates read as a whole number from 10%, one decimal from 1% to 10% and two decimals under 1% ("0.75%"); a rate too small to show reads "<0.01%", and "0%" appears only when the count is 0. The note under the list sums up how each number is counted — the same way as the campaign's Analytics tab.
- Under the campaign name you see the step count, lead count, "started <date>" (or "created <date>" if it never started), its folder on the All Campaigns tab and, when relevant, "N skipped (missing data)" — leads whose step was skipped because a variable had no value.
- Status pills: Draft (never launched), Sending, Paused, Finished. A campaign becomes Finished automatically once every lead has reached the end of the sequence, replied, bounced or unsubscribed.
- Deleting a campaign (from its menu or in bulk, after a confirmation) stops its sending and removes its enrolments, sent history, stats and tasks. Replies stay in Replies and the people stay in your Leads lists. It can't be undone.
- If the MailFleet team builds a campaign for you, it appears in this list once it has been handed over — you run it exactly like a campaign you created yourself.
Questions people ask
Can I create a campaign without leads?
Yes — the campaign is saved as a Draft. You can write the sequence and settings first. Deploy on Final review stays disabled, and Launch in the sequence editor is refused, until at least one lead is in the campaign. (The Launch button on the Settings and Analytics pages does not check — a campaign started from there simply sits at Sending with nothing to send until you add leads.)
