Why an email was skipped, held or bounced
How to read "skipped (missing data)", a lead's last activity, "Due now" and the bounce, blocked, unsubscribe and out-of-office statuses.
Where: Campaigns list (under the campaign name), Campaign → Analytics → Health, Campaign → Leads → open a lead → Record details → Last activity, and Campaign → Emails → Scheduled.
How to do it
- See "N skipped (missing data)" on the Campaigns page or Health card? Open the Leads tab, click a lead, and read Last activity — e.g. "Skipped step 2 — missing first_name". Add a fallback like {{first_name|there}} or fix the data.
- See "Due now" on Scheduled for a while? Senders are at their daily cap or inside their send gap; it goes on the next pass with capacity.
- See nothing scheduled while the campaign says Sending? Check the window notice on Emails → Scheduled, the Leads tab statuses, and whether leads are waiting on a manual/call task in Tasks.
- A test that fails shows the reason in red beside the Send test button — usually "No active mailbox to send the test from. Connect/verify a sender first." or "This step has no body to send yet." ("Couldn't send the test." appears only when no reason came back).
Good to know
- Last activity texts you may see: "Step N sent", "Skipped step N — missing <variables>", "On the blocklist — not sent", "Bounced", "Replied", "Not interested — removed from all campaigns", "Unsubscribed", "Out of office until <date> — next step held", "Email blocked as spam — not delivered; the next step continues later".
- Lead statuses in a campaign: Queued (not yet emailed), Contacted · step N, Replied, Bounced, Unsubscribed, Finished, Paused. The lead panel adds "In sequence" with the next step and its time, or "Every step has gone out. Nothing more is scheduled."
- Only a permanent "address doesn't exist" rejection counts as a bounce. A policy or spam refusal while the email is being sent is retried later. One that comes back as a notice afterwards marks that email Blocked: it wasn't delivered and isn't sent again, the lead stays in the sequence and their next step waits 3 days. Blocked emails are shown beside Bounced — in the Campaigns list's hover, under Analytics → Health and behind the Emails tab's Blocked chip — never counted in it.
- A campaign with every lead skipped for missing data finishes on its own — it genuinely has nothing left to send.
- Replies received while the campaign is Paused still stop the person; Resume does not resend anything.
