Cold email glossary

What is Sequence (cadence)?

A series of timed steps — emails, LinkedIn actions, calls — sent to a prospect in order until they reply.

A sequence is the unit of cold outreach: step 1, wait N days, step 2, and so on, with each step personalised from the prospect's data. A good cold email sequence is three to four steps over two to three weeks, each adding something new, threaded as replies to the first. The mechanics matter more than the copy: it must stop on any reply, hold for out-of-office return dates, respect sending windows, and never run the same person in two sequences at once.
